Chivalry in the New Millenium
I am a member of The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA) which began back in 1966 in Berkeley, California. With an emphasis on chivalry SCA members study and re-create pre-17th-century Europe as it should have been... minus the Black Death and add indoor plumbing!

Many SCA members participate in a variety of activities, including: Combat with rapiers and heavy swords, archery (target and combat), thrown weapons competitions, equestrian competitions, making period clothing, cooking and feasting on period foods, brewing (wines, meads and beers), metalwork, woodworking, pottery, medieval arts and sciences, music, dance, calligraphy, medieval games and much more. If it was done in the Middle Ages (and it is cool) there is probably someone in the SCA studying and recreating it!

The SCA is an international organization with over 30,000 members (and nearly 100,000 participants), distributed across 19 kingdoms. These kingdoms are located in countries around the world (U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia) and each is ruled by a King and Queen. I live in the Kingdom of An Tir which contains the Northwestern part of the United States (Idaho, Oregon, and Washington) and the adjoining Canadian provinces (Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan). Like other kingdoms, An Tir is divided into Principalities, Baronies, Shires, and Cantons. I call the Barony of Aquaterra my home and I currently hold the office of Baronial Scribe Deputy which involves organizing the creation of illuminated scrolls.

Often SCA members choose a specific time period and personna. In the SCA I am known as Honorable Lady Sarra de Glen and my personna is that of a 14th century scottish woman living in ROXBURGH, a parish in the lower part of Teviotdale, Roxburghshire, Located in the southern border lands.
